Chapter 1: Sowing the Seeds of Revolution

After Reading Chapter 1 in Mightier than the Sword by Rodger Streitmatter you get to truly understand why people view the country right now the way they do.  It is a difficult time for America.  We are going through a situation that hasn't happened in many, many years.  With a struggling economy and the unemployment rate at the highest its ever been, there needs to be change in America.  Occupy wall street, which I talk about later in this blog is turning into the next American Revolution.

Thomas Paine

Born: January 29, 1737 in Thetford, England

Died: June 8, 1809 at the age of 72 in New York City

At the age of 12, Thomas had failed out of school. In 1774, he met Benjamin Franklin in London, who helped him emigrate to Philadelphia.

His career turned to journalism while in Philadelphia and he became very important. In 1776, he published Common Sense, a strong defense of American Independence from England.

Common Sense

Common Sense was written by Thomas Paine in 1776 to inform the colonists on how poorly the British government was treating them.

Occupy Wall Street is being said to be the next "American Revolution." Thousands and thousands of people are protesting all over the country in support of 99% of people against the wealthy, 1% of the country that supposedly has all the money.  The United States of America is being run by large corporations.  The corporations that are running the country have all the money.  These corporations, we support and buy their products without even thinking twice about it.  Apple, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Mercedez just to name a few.

  1. I really like the way you formatted your post. I also liked the way in which you wrote about Thomas Paine. Rather than explaining who he was your wrote pure facts about his life.
